If you pause the game and leave it for a few seconds, then unpause it, everything goes super-speed for a wee while
I'm good at noticing glitches, aren't I?

Uncommon Sense.
You can easily code Space key to toggle pause. Once it's pressed it pauses the game, if it's pressed again it unpauses the game.
I'm presuming you have some variable to keep track if the game is paused, I'll call it isPaussed.
Add this to your onKeyDown event:
if (Key.isDown(Key.SPACE))
{
isPaused = !isPaused;
}
I've also noticed that you forgot to check if the game is paused in your onMouseDown event, so user can make new coffee particles even if the game is paused...
